20th Follower Celebration!

Well, I am very pleased to be able to celebrate the acquisition of my 20th follower on this blog. Thanks, ladies and gentlemen, for your interest!

I must also thank the Writers Digest Community group "Today I blogged about" for the increase in readership--I think that's how many of you found this blog.

So, let me pose a question to stimulate some conversation with my fellow writers out there. My local writers group had an interesting discussion about the issue of taboo or controversial topics in writing (yes, even fiction writing), and how they affect sharing your work with other people. Have you ever had this happen to you, or been on the other side of it as a reader/critiquer?

Congrats! It is hard to write on some topics and when you do, even in fiction, if they aren't real to you, it is embarrassing to share, especially with people who know you. At least for me anyways.

Congratulations! Today I Blogged On is definitely a handy tool.

As to controversy, I can relate. The central act of my work in progress is something that'll be controversial, hence why I keep it close to the vest.

You're up to 21.

It depends on who you share it with. If those you share it with don't like what you've written but can offer an honest opinion without letting their personal beliefs get in the way, then I'll share. On the other hand, if they attack what you've written because it goes againt their belief system or cannot offer you an honest opinion, why bother. The latter situation falls into the biblical quote of cast your pearls before swine. If all one does is trample on your work or ignore it, you're better served to share it with those who can be honest.

1. Congrats.

2. There's some controversary over my novel Seconhand Shoes. Is it YA/Crossover or not. The Protag is eighteen. The story is from the eighties. She's a psychic medium who's bullied by her mother to marry an undesirable guy (drug dealer)blah...blah..Also, I referred to a fat person in one of the chapters as a three-hundred pound burger. The group totally wailed on me. People are mean in real life. Why not fiction?

Beats me.

ABSOLUTELY for me. Dealing with edgy, sexy, and ultimately very personal topics, is what I do on my blog. I know being uncensored is key, but it's still hard to put it all out there sometimes! Especially when co-workers and family are reading... but I look to the bigger, honest, outlandish picture. :)
